Re: Dunkirk Awards Season Discussion Thread

I made a complete list of all the awards and nominations received by Dunkirk worldwide for the French wiki : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunkerque_(film,_2017)#Distinctions In Japan, Dunkirk won the Nikkan Sports Award for best foreign film and is also nominated for the Japan Academy Prize, the Bl...

Re: Set Photos/Videos (Potential Spoilers)

How could it not have existed in 1940?! Is Digue du Braek a man-made beach? How? What do you mean by "the west mole which stands there"? I thought the movie was about the east mole. How would the west mole being there help "transpose in a fictional "east of Dunkirk""? Digue = dyke in French. It's m...

Re: Set Photos/Videos (Potential Spoilers)

1. What do you mean by "Digue du Braek didn't exist in 1940"? As in, it physically didn't exist, or it wasn't named yet? It didn't exist. 2. Thanks for the information, but I don't see how that explains why they filmed it from right-to-left and then flipped it in post, instead of just filming it le...

Re: Set Photos/Videos (Potential Spoilers)

I agree. Maybe that spot west of Digue du Braek was most suitable for filming the dangerous dune-edged outskirts of town (and/or more suitable for landing a spitfire), but maybe shorefront homes to the east looked better for filming the earlier part of the glide? The Digue du Braek is a remote plac...

Re: Set Photos/Videos (Potential Spoilers)

Excellent question. YFR3 said Hardy filmed at Digue du Braek and that is near that lighthouse you see the landing plane pass. I believe that lighthouse (or one like it) is also seen in the background past the grounded trawler. In both cases they make it seem like those spots are clockwise along the...

Re: Set Photos/Videos (Potential Spoilers)

So the scene was flipped in post? I wonder why they didn't just do it the 'right' way. The Digue du Braek didn't exist in 1940. The Saint-Pol lighthouse is a part of what was called the West Mole in Dunkirk. It was a French sector during Operation Dynamo. In the movie, everything we saw on the Digu...

Re: Dunkirk Official Reviews Discussion

Spoiler 1: It felt slow moving to me because you see the same events happen a few times over since the story isn't told in a non linear way. The beach POV is told over a week, sea told over a day, air told over an hour. All of them eventually come together to a single focal point. Different way to ...
