Re: HBO's Game of Thrones

It's not often that the hero of the story chooses oblivion and uncertainty and that a story leaves you at that point. It's why I like the ending: there are no guarantees for happiness or any certainty of a just rule in the Seven Kingdoms at all. The ending presents us with the possibility of those t...

Re: HBO's Watchmen

From what I recall, Alan Moore has said that he intended Rorschach to be an example of the 'most unpleasant right-wing character'. While Moore said that Rorschach has a ferocious moral integrity, he also said that the latter's politics are completely mad.

Re: "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you"

Without this scene the third film does not happen because Talia specifically refers to Batman letting her father die as her reason for destroying Gotham City. In fact, every character who dies directly as a result of Batman breaking his one rule (Ra's al Ghul, Two-Face) has an impact on the third fi...

Re: [SPOILERS] Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate

Miranda Tate/Talia functions as a mirror to Bruce Wayne, and reminds me specifically of Bruce Wayne as he was when he wanted to confront Joe Chill in Batman Begins: he had waited a long time and had a plan that would result in Bruce getting revenge on Chill by murdering him. He is robbed of his reve...

Re: USA Presidential Election: Trump v. [???] (2020)

Lol, ABC totally sidelined Bernie for most of this, even though he's one of the leading candidates along with Biden and Warren. It's clear that a big media corporation has its financial interests that it wants to protect but do they have to be so obvious about it? Giving clowns like Klobuschar and Y...

Re: Joker (2019)

Can I take this opportunity to say that while it's nice (in theory) that a batman villain gets his/her own movie, I kinda get tired seeing the Joker everywhere because we know his shtick at this point: nihilism makes for much funny says man in clown makeup. Batman has like the best villains in super...

You get a silver wig, and you and you and you....lol Targaryen family drama: to the common people it was the day that changed their lives forever but for the Targs it was Tuesday I guess.

Re: Joker (2019)

If anything critics are too kind to DC films. Shazam and Aquaman especially. Shazam was a good movie, not a great one. Didn't change the genre or anything but it was ok. Aquaman wasn't well received by a bunch of critics so I don't think it's some underrated gem. It's just really crazy and dumb and...

Re: The Batman (2021)

Can we hit the pause button with the Joker for like 10 years and use some of the other batman villains for a change? How about Hugo Strange or Poison Ivy? I'd be like 10 times more interested.

Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

Charade (1963) I enjoyed this film, which manages to go between suspenseful and funny in rather seamless fashion. Audrey Hepburn is very good in this and she and Cary Grant have some rather good chemistry together. The violence stands out but also makes the stakes clear early on and at points you'r...
